Abstract An apparatus is described for the liquid processing of a surface of a moving sheet, web or plate. Processing liquid is supplied to said surface via a plurality of elongate discharge orifices extending across the width of said moving sheet or web in a non-perpendicular direction with respect to the sense in which said sheet, web or plate is advanced within said apparatus. By the said non-perpendicular arrangement of the discharge orifices air bubbles entrapped in the processing liquid as a result of pumping can be carried off so that no processing faults occur.

The exact parallellism between both sheets in the toner transfer zone is obtained by fitting one sheet onto a rotatable cylindrical member, fitting the other sheet to a flat supporting member that may move tangentially to the cylindrical member, arranging the flat member for balancing about a pivot, the axis of which runs parallel with the direction of displacement, providing two laterally spaced spacing members to control the gap between the photoconductor and the receptor sheet, and biasing the flat supporting member towards the cylindrical supporting member. The apparatus is principally intended for producing large-size lithographic aluminium printing plates (Fig. 5).
