An insulator pin for overhead electrical lines has a frangible portion. The pin has an elongate support for attachment to an electrical distribution pole and a body. The body has a connector for an insulator, a frangible portion and an elongate support holding portion from which the elongate support extends. Preferably the elongate support is a bolt. The frangible portion permits the body to break into two pieces for preventing damage to electrical distribution poles from forces transverse to the overhead electrical line. The frangible portion is located between the connector and the elongate support holding portion. The insulator pin may be attached to an electrical distribution pole to protect the pole from forces transverse to an overhead electrical lines supported by the pole. A method of making the insulator pin by molding is disclosed.

APPARATUS FOR ISOLATING A NETWORK PROTECTOR IN AN ELECTRIC POWER DISTRIBUTION NETWORK
In an electric power distribution network power is provided via high voltage cables carrying large secondary distribution currents which are connected to various electrical components such as transformers and network protectors which detect and accommodate secondary network power flow and problems such as network component malfunctioning or failure, and dangerous operating conditions such as an out of phase current status within the three or four high voltage primary power conducting cables arranged in parallel to share the load. network protectors address, among other things, a voltage out of phase situation in the cables which can lead to dangerous interruption conditions and result in damage to, or destruction of, the power distribution network and safety to the general public. The present invention addresses the problems associated with a faulty or failed network protector which permits continuous reversal in the direction of power (current) flow. Isolation of the problem network protector is achieved by transferring its load to associated network protectors on the secondary network to allow for safe servicing, or removal and replacement, of the hung-up network protector. The inventive electric network protector protection system automatically accommodates either 120 volt or 277 volt network systems, and further contemplates an arrangement for safely and securely connecting the network protector isolator's bus bar to a temporary power cable connected to contactors which can isolate a defective network protector from its associated network transformer.

A high impedance fault isolation system (HIFIS) identifies, isolates and dissipates high impedance, low current faults which occur within an individual tap, or branch, of an electric power distribution system using only portions of the tap affected. A master meter, or father smart meter (FSM), on the affected tap sends a coded signal to an antenna receiver combined with a microprocessor and chip which operates an electromagnetic control (EMC) grounding spring switch which isolates the downed primary conductor by causing the distribution system protecting device, i.e., a high voltage fuse or recloser, to de-energize the downed primary wire. A fire door sensor circuit then receives the trip signal from the microprocessor, causing the fire door sensor to melt open and release a shorting spring, in initiating operation of an expulsion fuse or recloser, which kills the downed live wire.

A low fault current isolation arrangement senses a loss of voltage and automatically isolates and de-energizes a down live primary wire if overcurrent protection devices have not cleared the high impedance fault in an electric power distribution network. Incorporating an operator selectable time delay response, the low fault current isolation arrangement permits overcurrent protection devices to attempt to detect and shut down the affected conductor, and then isolates and shuts down the low current fault if the overcurrent devices are not successful. The isolation arrangement continuously monitors AC voltage as remotely provided by smart meters even after a fault location is de-energized, and serves as a back up, and not as a replacement, for existing overcurrent protection schemes. A host computer operates in conjunction with plural smart meters each coupled to an associated customer distribution transformer in conjunction with the fault isolator to detect and shut down high impedance faults.
