This invention relates to a dirt-collection chamber for a vacuum cleaner, and in particular to a dirt-collection chamber which is removable whereby the collected dirt and debris can easily be disposed of. The dirt-collection chamber has an inlet opening through which air may enter the chamber, an outlet opening through which air may leave the chamber, and a disposal opening through which collected dirt and debris can be removed. The disposal opening has an openable cover which is held closed by a latch mechanism. There is a dirt-removal panel in the chamber which is movable towards and away from the disposal opening. The dirt-removal panel is movable by way of an operating handle and the operating handle is connected to an actuator for remotely releasing the latch mechanism.
