According to the invention, the sol-gel technique with hydrolysable and condensible silanes is used for synthesizing a heteropolycondensate suspension for coating components and articles with layers which are resistant to high temperatures, transparent, abrasion resistant and have anti-adhesive properties. In order to achieve a high abrasion resistance, the abrasive, transparent mineral particles having a refractive index which is adapted to the hardened matrix are ground with a heteropolycondensate in a high-energy mill and mixed with a temperature-stable polysiloxane in order to obtain a sufficient flexibility for preventing cracks from forming. The coating is suitable for use on metal, glass and ceramic substrates and is applied in a single wet-coating method and subsequently hardened. The layers are colourless to transparent and have a high anti-adhesive effect. The visual appearance of the surface of the substrate remains untouched. Brush structures of stainless steel can be easily recognized after application and hardening.

Ultrathin glass and ceramic composites were produced using a sol-gel process. In the process, thin layers of different compositions were produced on a thermally stable substrate using the sol-gel process, said layers producing inorganic vitreous or ceramic materials after a thermal hardening process. The sol-gel layers have a thickness of 1 - 7 µm after hardening. The sol-gel coated support substrate is removed either thermally, chemically, electrochemically, or physically, and the remaining layer is directly applied onto a mechanically stable substrate; or the sol-gel coated support substrate is applied onto the mechanically stable substrate before the support substrate is removed, and the support substrate is then removed thermally, chemically, electrochemically, or physically. By connecting the glass/ceramic composite to different substrate surfaces, ultrathin vitreous or ceramic coated molded bodies were thus produced which could not be foreseen as well. The coated substrates can be used as scratch-resistant covers on all scratch-sensitive substrates, as transparent display covers, for protecting useful objects, machine components, displays, plastic parts in the automotive field and other components in transportation, medical devices, optical devices, diffusion barriers for screens, such as OLEDs, mobile wireless devices, and smartphones, and in the production of electro-ceramic stacks and multi-layers.
