The engagement chain type door opening and closing device (100) is equipped with a pair of engagement chains (110) which engage with each other, thereby becoming not only stiff but also branchable; a chain guide means (120) provided with a chain housing groove (121); a drive sprocket (130) which drives the pair of engagement chains (110) in such a way that the same can freely advance or retreat; a driving source which supplies driving force to the drive sprocket (130); and a door section (150) which is driven by the pair of engagement chains (110).
