Introduced here is an approach to autofocusing in which an iterative scheme for performing pairwise comparison of digital images is performed in order to identify the optimal position for the focusing lens. This approach relies on the fact that digital images generated in rapid succession are not fully independent, but are of the same subject with different degrees of blur or defocus. In accordance with this approach, a retinal camera can proceed through a series of steps, analyzing pairs of the digital images, until the optimal position for the focusing lens is found.

METADATA EXTRACTION USING LARGE LANGUAGE MODELS (LLMS)
Introduced here is a system that is able to extract metadata from documents using LLMs. At a high level, the system obtains a file relating to a clinical trial. The system applies, to the file, a hash function to produce a hash value. Then, the system compares the hash value against hash values representing previously uploaded files to determine whether a matching hash value exists. In response to determining that no matching hash value exists, the system extracts an identifier for the clinical trial by applying an LLM to metadata of the file. The system then compares the identifier against identifiers of clinical trials to determine whether a matching identifier exists. Finally, in response to determining that no matching identifier exists, the generative platform prompts the user for information regarding the clinical trial.

RETINAL IMAGE GENERATION BASED ON EYE MOTION MODELLING-BASED CAPTURE PARAMETERS
Introduced here are approaches to generating an image with a fundus camera based on parameters determined through modeling of eye motion. The method captures a series of images to generate pupil position data over time. Using this data, the method determines a model for estimating pupil positions and predicts a time associated with a minimum pupil velocity. The method can estimate the pupil position at this time and generate a fundus camera configuration based on the position. The method can transmit a command to capture an image of the eye using the fundus camera configuration. By implementing these approaches, an imaging system can improve the quality of retinal imaging for patients with eye motion.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR COMBINING ACTIGRAPHY DATA WITH HEART RATE DATA TO ENHANCE SLEEP STAGING
The sleep staging platform disclosed herein enables accurate sleep stage classification by combining actigraphy data with heart rate data. The platform may use a multi-model approach that includes a first machine learning model to evaluate sleep stages using heart rate patterns from polysomnography datasets related to a wearable device. The platform may combine the outputs of the heart rate-based model with actigraphy features into a second model to further evaluate sleep stages. The platform may segment events based on timestamps to detect sleep stages and calculate clinically relevant sleep metrics such as total sleep time and wake after sleep onset. By using a multi-model approach, the platform reduces feature dimensionality, enabling practical training with small polysomnography datasets related to wearable devices. The combination of heart rate patterns and actigraphy features may enhance sleep staging accuracy, particularly when heart rate data is derived from motion-sensitive polysomnography signals.

A technique of estimating a continuous heart rate of a subject includes acquiring pulsatility data indicative of a cardiac cycle of the subject and motion data indicative of a motion of the subject. Frequency transformations are performed on the pulsatility and motion data over discrete windows of temporal length T to generate a set of windowed spectra. The discrete windows are temporally overlapping and each temporally offset from one another. Heart rate values, each corresponding to one of the windowed spectra, are output using a processing pipeline including one or more neural networks trained to collectively output one of the heart rate values for each windowed spectra. The continuous heart rate is estimated based upon a set of the heart rate values from the discrete windows that are temporally overlapping.

In some embodiments, a computer-implemented method of measuring heart rate analytics using raw photoplethysmography (PPG) data is provided. A computing system determines a plurality of frequency peaks in the raw PPG data using a Fourier analysis. The computing system determines a plurality of selected frequency peaks from the plurality of frequency peaks. For each selected frequency peak of the plurality of selected frequency peaks, the computing system creates filtered PPG data by applying a frequency of the selected frequency peak as a high-pass filter to the raw PPG data; detects diastole peaks and systole valleys in the filtered PPG data; and performs one or more pulse quality checks on the detected diastole peaks and systole valleys. The computing system uses diastole peaks and systole valleys associated with a lowest selected frequency peak that passed the pulse quality checks to determine a heart rate analytic measurement.
Systems and methods for analyzing a blood volume signal are described. In an example, the method comprises extracting self-normalized features from blood volume signals within a signal window; generating a signal quality prediction based on the self-normalized features to provide a quality prediction score, wherein the quality prediction score is between an upper bound and a lower bound; and generating a health metric score based on the blood volume signals in the signal window if the quality prediction score is above a predetermined threshold. In an example, the blood volume signals are photoplethysmography (PPG) signals. In an example, the method includes identifying a signal quality issue if the quality prediction score is below the predetermined threshold.

Achieving uniform patterned drug release via at least one embedded microchannel in an ophthalmic device
Uniform and location patterned drug release can be achieved via microchannel(s) embedded in a drug dispensing ophthalmic device. At least one reservoir can be encapsulated within the ophthalmic device at a discrete location to hold an amount of a drug. Each reservoir can be covered by an electrode that electrodissolves to release the drug. At least one microchannel having a length and holding at least water is encapsulated in the ophthalmic device between the reservoir and the side of the ophthalmic device facing the eye. After release from the reservoir, the drug spreads through an entirety of the length of the microchannel due to a capillary force inside the microchannel and a diffusion coefficient of the drug in the water. The amount of the drug diffuses from a plurality of locations along the entirety of the length of the microchannel.
