This invention addresses the problem of improving the security of cash management operations performed by a transaction processing device while reducing the amount of labor required by said operations. This transaction processing device has a memory unit that stores information on the number of each denomination of banknotes contained in a cash cassette, information on the number of banknotes contained in a reject cassette, and state information. In order to solve the aforementioned problem, the present invention is provided with the following: a deposit unit provided with a feeding means for feeding stored paper sheets out one at a time; a conveyance route for conveying the paper sheets fed out by the feeding means; an identification unit for acquiring the length and an image of the paper sheets being conveyed; a control unit for inspecting the paper sheets for which images have been acquired at the identification unit; and a paper sheet storage unit for storing the paper sheets having been inspected at the control unit. The present invention is characterized in that on the basis of the length of the paper sheets, the control unit calculates a conveyance-pitch that is necessary for distribution and controls the speed of conveyance of the conveyance route in accordance with this conveyance pitch, and in that the control unit also calculates a computation time for computational processing for discriminating between types of paper sheets from the images acquired at the identification unit, and in accordance with this computation time, controls the speed of feeding of paper sheets by the feeding means and the speed of conveyance.

In this paper-slip handling device, which is provided with a cash receiving/dispensing slot that is used to receive and dispense banknotes, said cash receiving/dispensing slot is provided with a separation/accumulation mechanism that performs an accumulation operation in which paper slips are accumulated in the cash receiving/dispensing slot and a separation operation in which paper slips inserted into the cash receiving/dispensing slot are separated and conveyed to the interior of the device.
