Handlebar mountable light pipe apparatus for a bicycle
There is described a handlebar mountable bicycle light for fitting to a bicycle handlebar (3) between brake levers (4). The bicycle light comprises an upper cover (5) and a lower cover (6) which are preferably made from injection molded plastics and of a clam shell type arrangement able to receive handlebar (3) and rigidly retain light pipe assembly (7) with cover screws (8). Lower cover (6) contains an aperture (14) through which the handlebar stem (9) extends. The light pipe assembly (7) comprises a transparent rod-like light pipe (18) with LEDs (26) mounted at each end of the light pipe (18). The light pipe assembly 7 further includes heat sinks (24) to draw heat away from the LEDs (26). There is described a torque sensing system for a bicycle (1) having a pair of pedals (8) mounted at respective ends of a pedal shaft (18), and a drive sprocket (12) mounted to the pedal shaft adjacent one end thereof, the torque sensing system comprising first and second encoders (5, 9) mounted at spaced locations for rotation with the pedal shaft and sprocket, respective first and second detectors (4, 16) for sensing angularly spaced points on the said first and second encoders, and control circuitry for receiving input signals from said first and second detectors, the control circuitry being operable to determine the relative angular positions of the first and second encoders and to determine a torque value based on the determined relative angular positions of the first and second encoders.
There is described a bicycle having a steerer tube (3) mounted to the bicycle frame in upper and lower annular bearings (5, 4). Fork blades are mounted to the lower end of the steerer rube. The steerer tube has a non-circular cross-section at the location of the upper bearing (5). A headset (2) is clamped to the steerer tube and is supported in the upper bearing (5). The headset may be clamped to the steerer tube by means of clamp screws (9) engaging with a guide wedge (10). A passage passing through the upper bearing (5) is defined between guide wedge (10) and the steerer tube (3). Control cables from controls on the handlebar may pass through the passage and into the interior of the bicycle frame (7). Control cables may also pass through the lumen of the steerer tube (3) and into the interior of hollow fork blades.
There is described a bicycle seat post (2) having at its lower end to an expandable plug (9) for fixing the seat post (2) relative to the seat tube (22) of a bicycle frame (20). The expandable plug (9) is preferably formed from elastomeric material, and is radially expanded by axial compression of the plug between a pressure surface (7) of the seat post (2) and a pressure plate (8) movable relative to the seat post (2) by means of a cam (6,12) mounted at the upper end of the seat tube and connected to the pressure plate (8) by a tension member (11).
There is a described a bicycle having a motorised front wheel mounting assembly comprising a single-leg fork (9), bearings (19) for mounting a front wheel (10) to one side of the single-leg fork, a motor/gearbox assembly (13) releaseably mountable to the single leg fork and having a driveshaft (22) drivingly engagable with a front wheel mounted to the bearings, and a motor controller (14) mounted within the fork leg (9) and adapted to supply electrical power to the motor/gearbox assembly (13).
