A backlight unit for a liquid crystal display device according to another aspect of the present invention is provided with: a light guide plate or a light guide sheet that guides a beam entering from the end surface toward the front surface side; one or more light sources placed along the end surface of the light guide plate or the light guide sheet; and the light diffusing sheet that is placed on the front surface side of the light guide plate or the light guide sheet.
