In order to provide a coating agent that cures at room temperature for preventing cathodic corrosion and for application as an aerosol and with a brush as a coating colour paint, according to the invention the coating agent is produced according to the following method: a) mixing 5 to 95 wt.-% of a metal alkoxide with 5 to 95 wt.-% of metal pigment, b) adding a solvent and a maximum of 10 wt.-% of a catalyst (relative to the amount of solid). This achieves cathodic protection that also effectively inhibits contact corrosion in substrates consisting of different metals. It has been shown in the context of this invention that said coating agent achieves a controlled reduction in activity by covering individual metal particles with a conductive or semi-conductive metal oxide coating, for example a titanium dioxide coating on zinc. Weldability is preserved and the coating agent can be varnished.
