In an exemplary embodiment, the device receives a first set of satellite and optionally environmental data for the target landmass. In addition, the device trains an above ground biomass density model using at least the satellite data and Light 5 Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) data. Furthermore, the device applies the above ground biomass density model using a second set of satellite and environmental biomass to generate the ground biomass density map.

An automated planting system includes a planting system including a chamber connected to a trigger-controlled firing mechanism, a barrel, and a feeder. The trigger-controlled firing mechanism is configured to direct a pod fed into the chamber by the feeder, through the barrel. The automated planting system further includes a trigger control system connected to the trigger-controlled firing mechanism and configured to receive data from one or more sensors. The trigger control system is configured to: determine a position of the mobile transport platform using the one or more scnsors; compare the position of the mobile transport platform to a first location in a planting pattern; determine that the position is within a threshold distance of the first location; and cause the trigger-controlled firing mechanism to fire a pod at the first location.
