The apparatus comprises a chassis, a carriage coupled to the chassis to reciprocate along a longitudinal axis of the chassis, a shaft capable of indexing rotation coupled to the carriage, and arms extending radially from the indexing shaft and tipped in high-pressure nozzle assemblies. The method comprises positioning the apparatus in a pipe and alternately reciprocating the carriage and indexing the shaft so as to scarify to successive longitudinal swathes of the pipe surface until the desired circumference of the pipe section is scarified. The apparatus is then repositioned in the next section of pipe and the method is repeated until the desired length of pipe is scarified. The invention may further comprise a separable propulsion unit.

A hydrodemolition apparatus provides multiple degrees of freedom enabling the treatment of overhanging or vertically inclined surfaces. A nozzle wall or track is pivotable to present the nozzles substantially normal to the overhanging or inclined surface. The nozzle wall or track is positioned proximate to the inclined surface by a combination of a vertically displaceable carriageway, a laterally displaceable carriage and an elongated member that terminates in the pivotable nozzle wall or track.
A scarifying rig may be mounted on the surface of a floating roof to move about the perimeter of the roof. A steeply inclined surface is hydrodemolished by providing a staging platform and a rig that includes a base frame defining a planar footprint within the frame. The rig is suspended from the platform by a cable such that frame is coplanar with the surface and the incline of the surface causes the rig to lean against it. Rails are provided on the surface to restrain spurious lateral movement of the rig. The rig is positioned on the surface and nozzles mounted on a trolley within a travelling carriage on the frame travel in two dimensions to hydrodemolish the surface within the footprint. The subject matter of the invention disclosed herein is a hydro-demolition device and a top-down method for deconstructing structural surfaces. The device includes a rigid support frame mounted above a work-face on the structural surface being deconstructed. The rigid frame supports a cutting nozzles that move up and down along the structural surface. The nozzles may be mounted on a carriage that is movably connected to the rigid frame. The carriage may swing about a swing axis so that the nozzles move axially toward and away from the carriage. The nozzles may be movable toward and away from the work-face. The various movements of the nozzles are effectuated by rotators and drivers.
Disclosed herein is a facet cutter used with hydro-demolition equipment in cutting openings in structural surfaces. The facet cutter includes a nozzle head with one or more nozzles. The nozzle head can be placed adjacent a side of the opening where the facet is to be cut. The nozzle head is oriented so that the axes of the nozzles are substantially perpendicular to the desire plane of the face of the facet. High-pressure fluid is applied to the nozzle and the nozzle head is moved over the plane of the facet, thereby cutting the facet. Various axial and rectilinear motions of the nozzle head may be effectuated by various drivers and rotators, at least some of which are controlled remotely by a remote control device.
A method of and apparatus for cleaning a surface, such as a wall of a waste boiler of a Kivcet furnace, are described. The invention comprises suspending a pair of spaced apart cables adjacent a surface to be cleaned, attaching ends of the rail to respective ones of the cables with equal lengths of cable between the rail and the roof, the rail being reversibly moveable up and down the surface. The invention disclosed and claimed herein relates to a subterranean pipe tractor for moving and controlling a pipe scarifier. The subterranean pipe tractor comprises a scarifier connector that reversibly connects a scarifier to the pipe tractor; a drive mechanism for propelling the scarifier through the pipe when the scarifier is connected to the pipe tractor; and a power source that powers the drive mechanism. The power source of the pipe tractor may be an on-board power source or an external power source. The pipe tractor may include a hydraulic pump and an on-board electric generator powered by the power source. The subterranean pipe tractor may include local controls for controlling local functions and remote controls used to control remote components, such as a high-pressure fluid source. The subterranean pipe tractor may optionally include a scarifier lift mechanism for lifting one end of the scarifier.
A method and apparatus for cleaning a surface (18), such as a wall of a waste boiler (14) of a Kivcet furnace, are described. The apparatus comprises suspending a pair of spaced apart cables (24, 26) adjacent a surface to be cleaned, attaching ends of a rail (34) to respective ones of the cables, and the rail being reversibly moveable up and down the surface. A machine and method are disclosed for deconstructing walls and other substantially vertical surfaces. The machine comprises a static, stand-alone support-frame. A carriage is movably mounted on the support-frame, which carriage is operable to be raised and lowered along the support-frame adjacent to a workface. To the carriage are mounted one or more nozzles, preferably the nozzles are mounted to the carriage by means of a nozzle carrier that is operable to move back and forth along the length of the carriage. The nozzles are connected to a high-pressure supply of an erosive material, preferably water. The erosive material, when forced through the nozzles, form jet streams that are directed against the surface of the workface, thereby eroding the surface.
Optionally, the invention comprises means of yawing or means of rotating the nozzles in order to access the sidewalls of the opening in the workface produced by the invention.
Optionally, the invention comprises means of adjusting the nozzles towards or away from the workface surface in order to maintain an optimal gap between the nozzle and the workface surface as the opening gets deeper.
Optionally, the invention comprises a work platform mounted on the support-frame and operable to be raised and lowered along the support-frame, thereby providing access to the workface for workers cutting rebar and carrying out other ancillary tasks.
In accordance with the invention, there is provided a concrete removing apparatus for removing concrete from an inclined wall of concrete having a frame with a front region. The frame may be supported on either a platform or from the wall with the front region adjacent to the wall. A carriage assembly is coupled to the frame assembly proximate a front region thereof, the carriage assembly extending from one side of the frame to another. A nozzle assembly is mounted on the carriage assembly and operative to move laterally of the frame assembly in response to activation of the carriage assembly. A nozzle on the nozzle assembly is operative to emit a jet of fluid against the wall of sufficient velocity to remove concrete from the wall.
