USE OF AIRCRAFT WASTE SYSTEM VACUUM GENERATOR TO PROVIDE ELECTRICAL POWER
Use of an aircraft waste system vacuum generator (10) to provide electrical power back to the aircraft. Typically, a vacuum generator is required to create a pressure differential for flushing when an aircraft is on ground or at low altitude. When the aircraft is in flight at higher altitudes, a pressure differential between the cabin and the air outside the aircraft creates the vacuum required for flushing, and the vacuum generator is not needed. This disclosure identifies a way to harvest energy from the vacuum generator when it otherwise would not be in use without increasing the existing burden on the air cabin pressure management system.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR MANAGING GREY WATER ONBOARD AN AIRCRAFT
Disclosed are systems and methods of managing grey water or other recycled water onboard an aircraft based on demand within the aircraft. In some cases, the grey water is obtained from a lavatory or galley sink of the aircraft and is treated to purify and/or filter the grey water. The treated grey water can be routed within the aircraft according to a control scheme that accounts for demand within the aircraft. For example, some or all of the treated water may undergo electrolysis to produce oxygen gas (O2) and hydrogen gas (H2), some or all of which may be fed into the fuel cell system and used in a chemical reaction to produce electrical energy and other fuel cell by-products that can be directed to various aircraft systems and/or the aircraft cabin/lavatories.
Embodiments of the present invention provide a water management system for use on board a passenger transport vehicle. The water management system may be used to address and manage excess humidity, water leaks, or any other instance when water or other liquid may collect at a certain location. The disclosure provides a system for managing excess water and for optionally delivering the water to another location. The removal location may be a disposal outlet or it may be a beneficial use of the collected water on-board the vehicle.
Examples of devices, systems, and methods to manage aircraft water and waste servicing are disclosed. In one example, an aircraft water and waste controller has a network interface to receive water and waste data from water and waste devices in an aircraft. During a flight, the aircraft water and waste controller receives and stores the water and waste data. When the aircraft lands, the aircraft water and waste controller wirelessly transmits the water and waste data to one or more remote devices. The remote devices can use the water and waste data to determine water and waste ground services that need to be performed for the aircraft's upcoming flight(s).

Two-stage flush and grey water flush systems and devices
Embodiments of the present invention provide a grey water flush system for use with vacuum toilets. One embodiment of the system provides a two-stage flush that uses a transient tank in between the toilet bowl and the main aircraft waste tank, which reduces the noise level associated with the flush process because a lesser vacuum is demanded for the first stage of the flush. Embodiments of the system further capture grey water from a sink basin in a reservoir and use that water in the toilet flush process. There is further provided a lavatory odor removal system option that is activated during the second stage of the flush.
Embodiments of the present disclosure relate generally to a reservoir (40) that is easily removed from a grey water flush system. The reservoir is made modular so that rather than removing an entire reservoir/pump/circuitry system, the reservoir (40) can be separately removed from the system. The reservoir can also be made disposable, which can save cleaning and refurbishment costs. This can also increase turn-around time for maintenance of the system.
Embodiments of the present invention provide systems and methods for disposal of liquid and food into a sink basin. The disclosed system cooperates with and delivers the received waste material to the main waste system on-board the vehicle. This is typically an aircraft waste tank. The system does not require a manual flush, but includes a sensor system that activates drainage of the holding line when the liquid and/or other waste material reaches a certain level therein. The disclosed system combines the functionalities of a common galley sink and a galley waste disposal unit, but occupies only the space envelope of an existing galley sink. The use of an existing galley sink means that no additional space on the countertop is required.

Embodiments of disclosure provide an intermediate accumulator that can receive and hold water prior to its delivery to a vacuum toilet or other water-using source. The pump required to move water from the reservoir to the intermediate accumulator can be much lighter and smaller than pumps previously required in systems that do not use an intermediate accumulator. Providing an intermediate accumulator can provide a more constant flush by holding the pressure inside the accumulator more constant, by equalizing the pressure, and by lowering the total volume required per flush. The accumulator can store energy in the water and deliver it to a water-using source using less energy and requiring less volume.

The present invention relates to a method for discharging the waste water contained in a water holding tank (4) of an aircraft toilets grey water management system and to a system for managing the grey water from the toilets of an aircraft. According to the invention, the method consists in discharging the waste water using a ripple diaphragm pump (6) comprising an intake pipe (14) connected to said holding tank (4), the diaphragm of the pump (6) being able to ripple, under the action of actuating means, in order to discharge said waste water present in the holding tank (4) through the intake pipe (14) of the pump (6) as far as an exhaust pipe (15) of the pump (6). The grey water management system according to the invention comprises a ripple diaphragm pump (6) for discharging the grey water from a holding tank and for supplying a toilet bowl (5).
Seal configuration (10) for use in connection with vacuum systems, in particular for use in vacuum waste flush systems, such as those used in passenger transport vehicles that have on-board lavatories with vacuum toilet systems. The seal configuration (10) provides an offset configuration of a vacuum-side seal (34) and a waste-receptacle side seal (32), which can result in a larger seal on the vacuum side (30). This slightly delays the opening of the waste-receptacle side seal (32) with respect to the vacuum-side seal (34) of the system, proving an improved vacuum environment. This can also give the flow of waste a more direct transition across a vacuum plate as it flows through a flush valve.

A mixed media orbital valve comprises a valve housing (1) with an inlet (3) and an outlet (4), a flush plate (2) housed within the valve housing and interposed between the inlet and the outlet, and one or more valve seals (8) positioned at an interface between the valve housing and the flush plate. The flush plate has a media bore hole (14) that, when actuated, either moves into an alignment position with the inlet and the outlet in order to allow passage of media through the valve, or moves to a nonalignment position with the inlet and the outlet in order to block the valve. The inlet (3) comprises shaped walls (9) such that the inward flow of media avoids a gap that is created between the one or more valve seals and the flush plate during actuation of the flush plate which helps in preventing ingestion of waste into the interior of the valve. Furthermore, vents (10, 11) are provided to prevent a pressure differential that could encourage media ingestion between the valve seals and the flush plate during actuatino of the flush plate.
