This metal mask substrate is a metal sheet having a band shape. The metal sheet is rolled stock of an iron-nickel-based alloy. The thickness of the metal sheet is at most 30 μm. The 3σ of the grain sizes of crystal grains positioned in a cross-section forming an angle of -10° to +10° with respect to a plane orthogonal to the rolling direction of the metal sheet, as measured by electron backscatter diffraction, is at most 8.0 μm.
