An apparatus for manufacturing a protective gown, such as disposable surgical (PPE) gown formed of non-woven gown materials, comprises a first ultrasonic welding apparatus and a drum anvil with a gown pattern formed on the outer surface. The gown pattern comprises a body portion, two shoulder portions, two sleeves each ending in an outer wrist tie and an inner wrist tie, and a pair of waist ties. The non-woven gown material is ultrasonically welded according to the gown pattern in a single rotation of the drum such that a pair of continuous outer seams are formed from the neck portion, a respective outer shoulder portion, a respective outer sleeve portion and an outer wrist cuff, and a pair of continuous inner seams are each formed from an inner wrist cuff along an inner side of the respective sleeve, and along a side of the body portion including a waist tie to the respective base of the body portion, and a back opening portion is formed from an inner edge of the first lower piece and an inner edge of the second lower piece. This creates a welded gown including sleeves in a single rotation. The first drum may also cut the seams and create a neck opening, two hand openings and a waist opening, or the first drum may perform welding and a second drum with a cutting pattern is used to cut the neck opening, two hand openings and a waist opening in a single rotation of the drum.
A cord dispensing apparatus for dispensing elastic cord for attachment to a disposable face mask comprises a roller, cord guides, a primary cord feeder, a secondary cord feeder, a drive motor, a roller motor, and a control circuit. The roller feeds cord from a cord source and is driven by a drive motor. The primary cord feeder comprises a pair of pincher wheels (a drive wheel driven by driver motor, and an idle wheel) and a first bobbin constrained to move along a linear path. A position sensor detects a position of the bobbin on the path. The second cord feeder comprises a second bobbin constrained to move along a linear path. The cord is fed through the arrangement to a production line. The control circuit receives the output of the position sensor and detects that cord is being drawn by the production line machinery and turns the drive motor and the roller motor on, and when the control circuit detects that cord is no longer being drawn by the production line machinery, the control circuit turns the drive motor and the roller motor off.

A cutting tool for cutting netting used for encasing meat products comprises a blade and a guard. A control circuit is electrically connected to the blade, and configured to maintain the temperature of the blade at a cutting temperature in the range of 300°C to 500°C. The guard defines an interior cavity surrounding the blade and further comprises a slot exposing a portion of the blade. The guarding is further shaped to define a funnel at a distal end of the cutting tool leading to the slot such that in use the funnel guides a netting to be cut towards the blade. The cutting tool may be provided as a hand tool or in a bench mounted form.

An improved tubular openwork fabric or net for food products, the openwork fabric including a plurality of filament assemblies. Each filament assembly is formed from one or more filaments and the filament assemblies are knitted as alternating conjoined and intermediate members. Each intermediate member includes a single filament assembly and each conjoined member includes a pair of filament assemblies that are worked together. The openwork fabric further includes an extension limiting member to limit a longitudinal extension of the openwork fabric.
A double tube encasing apparatus and methods of encasing for encasing meat products in a double casing including a film (e.g. collagen film) and a net in which a first tube is loaded with a height reduced shirred film and a second coaxial tube which supports a shirred netting. In one embodiment a casing tube is placed over a meat stuffing horn and is preloaded with a loose shirred film. A second casing tube which supports the netting is pushed or placed over the loose shirred film, and causes a reduction in diameter of the loose shirred film for example by forcing the vertically pleated shirred film to layback.
The present disclosure relates to improved tubular openwork fabric or net for food products, the openwork fabric comprising a plurality of filament assemblies wherein each filament assembly is formed from one or more filaments and the plurality of filament assemblies are knitted as alternating cojoined and intermediate members. Each intermediate member comprises a single filament assembly and each cojoined member comprises a pair of filament assemblies that are worked together. The openwork fabric further comprises an extension limiting means to limit a longitudinal extension of the openwork fabric.
An encasing apparatus for encasing meat products in a double casing including a combined film and a net is described. A casing tube is placed over a meat stuffing horn and is preloaded with a shirred film and net casing for double casing meat exiting the meat stuffing horn. To reduce the risk of tearing of the collagen as it is deshirred and stuffed, the casing tube is oversized with respect to the meat stuffing horn and has a first outer diameter within 10-20% of the diameter of the expanded collagen casing.

In another embodiment the film is shirred onto the first casing tube with a curved over or wave like profile rather than a vertical profile to reduce the height of the film, so that the second tube loaded with a shirred netting can be loaded over the first tube. This enables double casing of small diameter meat products where the expanded netting diameter is 5-30% less than the expanded film diameter to cause indentation or surface patterning of the meat product.

The invention is a restrainer for a spool (10) of thread to prevent the thread (13) from being freely drawn off of the spool (10). It comprises a resilient element (12) that extends around the circumference of the outer surface (14) of the spool (10) so that the thread (13) being drawn from the spool (10) must pass between the outer surface of the spool (10) at the inner surface of the resilient element (12) there by impeding the free removal of the thread (13). The invention prevents excessive thread being jerked from the spool.
