The control circuitry is configured to estimate an amount of exudate to be moved from the wound site via a portion of the first fluid flow path to the canister, and control a duration of a flushing period and/or a duration of an inter-flushing period based on the estimated amount of exudate. The flushing period defines a time period during which the electronically controllable valve is opened and the source of negative pressure is activated for transporting fluid from the wound site to the canister, and the inter-flushing period defines a time between two consecutive flushing periods.
