FAIL-SAFE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY FOR AN ANNULAR DISK BRAKE

Application Number CA2012050686
Publication Number 2013/044394
Status In Force
Filing Date 2012-10-01

Abstract

The actuator assembly (40) includes a substantially cylindrical housing (310), a first and second annular actuator devices (300, 302) respectively positioned inside inboard-facing and outboard-facing compartment (320, 322) of the housing (310), a plate (342) axially movable in the housing (310) between an inboard end position and an outboard end position, and an axially-movable annular member (48). One or more springs (340) are provided between the plate (342) and a cover (312) closing an inboard side of the housing (310). The plate (342) is set to its outboard end position when the first actuator device (300) is under a threshold internal fluid pressure, thereby automatically setting the brake (10) into a parking mode using the spring force. The brake (10) is in a normal operation mode when the first actuator device (300) is above the threshold internal pressure, the plate (342) then being at its inboard end position.

ARRANGEMENT FOR AUTOMATICALLY COMPENSATING BRAKE PAD WEAR IN AN ANNULAR DISK BRAKE

Application Number CA2012050690

Status In Force
Filing Date 2012-10-01

Abstract

The arrangement includes an inboard annular section (200) and an outboard annular section (202), both coaxially disposed with reference to a central axis (5) of the annular disk brake (10). The annular sections (200, 202) are pivotable with reference one another. The arrangement has a positioning system (210) interposed between the annular sections (200, 202). The positioning system (210) includes two torque-transmitting mechanisms (224, 226) allowing an incremental and irreversible offset of the relative angular position between the annular sections (200, 202) to compensate for the brake pad wear.

Abstract

The annular disk brake (10) comprises a rotor disk (60) and at least one brake pad (62, 64) provided on each side of the rotor disk (60). The brake pad or pads (64) on one side are connected to a substantially axially-guided brake pad carrier (66). The brake (10) has a force transmitting arrangement creating a force increasing amplification between an axially-actuated member (48) and the carrier (66). This arrangement can increase the brake compactness and provide an even distribution the braking force around the circumference of the rotor disk (60). A method of increasing a brake pad clamping force is also disclosed.
