CONTROLLED-RELEASE NITROGEN FERTILIZER USING BIOCHAR AS A RENEWABLE SUPPORT MATRIX
This invention is directed to an ecofertilizer comprising a granular organic urea-based controlled release nitrogen fertilizer using biochar as a renewable support matrix. Subsequently, urea impregnated onto biochar is encapsulated using a biodegradable polymer. The encapsulation was carried out by a precipitation method. The controlled-release nitrogen fertilizer developed exhibited substantially complete nitrogen availability as plant nutrient.
The invention relates to the use of a hydroalcoholic plant extract obtained from the Ruta graveolens species in order to prevent and/or treat arterial hypertension, as it exhibits a marked vasodilator effect in vitro and anti-hypertensive effect in vivo, the latter being verified by orally administering the extract to rats in which a hypertensive level has been induced. The extract is orally administered in a lyophilized manner, either in a capsule or directly dissolved in water, with a mainly preventive purpose, but also as a therapeutic agent for the hypertensive level, as there are currently no monotherapies that have an adequate cost-effectiveness ratio. Although there are various types of drugs that are usually used in the treatment of this disease, the efficiency thereof is not adequate and they normally have to be combined, potentially presenting undesirable side effects.
A piece of scientific/technological equipment is presented for the generation of a convergent photon beam for radiotherapy or other applications. This equipment consists of adequately modifying the trajectory of an electron beam from a linear accelerator (LINAC) by applying magnetic and/or electric fields. These electrons perpendicularly impact the surface of a curved material that has a particular curvature ratio (anode), thus generating X-rays. The interaction of the electrons with the atoms of the anode's material generate X-rays with a non-isotropic angular-spatial distribution, with a greater concentration in the focal direction, which is defined by the geometry of the anode. A curved collimator with an adequate curvature ratio is attached to the back of the anode. The collimator is made up of an array of a great number of small holes that point toward the focal point. This device transmits X-rays solely in the focal direction. The Summary Figure presents a typical configuration of the invention that has been presented.

The invention relates to scientific/technological equipment intended for the generation of a beam of converging photons for use in radiotherapy or other applications. The equipment is used for suitably forming, by means of the application of magnetic and/or electric fields, a beam of electrons originating from a linear accelerator (LINAC), which electrons perpendicularly intercept the surface of a curved material of a particular radius of curvature (anode), thereby generating X-rays. The interaction between the electrons and the atoms of the anode material generates X-rays with a non-isotropic angular distribution having a greater concentration in the focal direction and being defined by the geometry of the anode. A curved collimator is located at the rear part of the anode, said collimator having a suitable radius of curvature and being formed by an arrangement of a large number of small holes pointing towards the focal point. The device allows the transmission of X-rays only in the focal direction. A typical diagram of the invention is provided in the figure.

METHOD FOR CRYOPRESERVATION OF HUMAN SPERMATOZOA FREE FROM SEMINAL PLASMA USING A FAST AND SIMPLE ASEPTIC VITRIFICATION-DEVITRIFICATION PROCESS; PORTABLE KIT FOR CARRYING OUT THE METHOD; AND USE OF THE SAME FOR TREATMENT OF DISORDERS RELATED TO REPRODUCTIVE FAILURES
The present invention discloses a method for cryopreservation of human spermatozoa: the method comprises providing spermatozoa free from seminal liquid; mixing the spermatozoa with vitrification medium, wherein the main cryoprotectant agent is 0.1 -0.3 M sucrose; placing the sample inside straws and rapidly freezing them; refrigerating the straws with no need of liquid N2; and devitrifying the sample in a medium of the present invention. The present invention furthermore discloses a portable kit that makes easy to implement the method, said kit comprising vitrification and devitrification solutions in the volumes required to develop the method and the physical support to carry out the same, i.e. the straws. The use of this kit is also disclosed for the treatment of disorders related to reproductive failures.
The invention relates to a novel dentifrice composition having anticaries properties, including a combination of propolis, methylparaben, and propylparaben as an active principle. Of these three components, propolis is the main component, the effect thereof being strengthened by smaller amounts of methylparaben and propylparaben, resulting in a composition having high anticaries activity without harmful side effects. Said active components are present in the following percentages relative to the total weight of the dentifrice composition: 2 to 10% of propolis; 0.01 to 0.30% of methylparaben; and 0.01 to 0.15% of propylparaben, wherein the dentifrice composition further includes a fluoride compound and supplementary ingredients typical of such a formulation, such as abrasives, humectants, foaming agents, thickeners, sweeteners, flavorings, and deionized water.
The invention relates to an active agent having contraceptive properties. Said active agent is a molecular fraction of venom from the Latrodectus mirabilis spider. The active agent is a peptide having sequence SEQ ID NO 1 or sequences at least 85% similar, obtained by means of chemical synthesis or recombinant DNA technology. In a preferred embodiment, the active agent having contraceptive properties is a peptide having 10 to 30 amino acids, preferably 20 amino acids. Said preferred embodiment is illustrated by the sequence SEQ ID NO 2 or sequences that are at least 85% similar, obtained by means of chemical synthesis or recombinant DNA technology. The invention likewise relates to a method for obtaining the contraceptive peptide, which includes the cloning of the nucleotide sequence in a microorganism. The contraceptive pharmaceutical composition includes at least one peptide as per above and one or more pharmaceutically acceptable carriers. Lastly, the invention relates to the use of the peptide which can be used to prepare a drug suitable for use as a contraceptive agent and as a spermicidal agent.
