A system and method for estimating current positions of sensor elements in an array sensor involve providing initial position estimates by an electronic computing device, transmitting a sensor signal into the surroundings, and receiving a reflected signal from at least one calibration target. The system determines the direction of arrival of the reflected signal and analytically estimates the virtual positions of the sensor elements based on this direction and a criterion of smallest residuum. The current positions are then estimated using the virtual positions and initial estimates. The technology further includes a computer program product, a computer-readable storage medium, and an array sensor configured to perform these functions.

Abstract

A method and an assistance system support a lane change by a motor vehicle. In the method, objects detected by a rearward-directed environment sensor system are each assigned to a direction lane of a road on which the motor vehicle is travelling. The direction lane assignment is classified as stable when no switch has occurred for at least a predefined time-period in the object-specific direction lane assignments. A classification as unstable is made as soon as such a switch occurs. As-long-as the direction lane assignment is classified as stable, a lane change by the motor vehicle from the currently travelled lane to an adjacent lane is supported taking into account only objects assigned to this adjacent lane. If a safe lane change is possible in view of the objects taken into account according to a predefined position criterion, this is signaled automatically to support the lane change.

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for operating a steer-by-wire steering system (1), wherein the steer-by-wire steering system (1) has redundantly designed control paths, wherein if an error occurs in a main control path, there is switching from the main control path to a redundant control path and for this purpose the redundant control path is switched from a passive state to an active state, wherein a control variable (20, 21) in the redundant control path is estimated during a predefined transition phase based on measurement variables (30) of driving dynamics and a steering transmission (11). The invention also relates to a steer-by-wire steering system (1).
