Technologies and techniques for estimating the ground state energy of a quantum chemical system. The method includes classically computing states close to the ground state of the quantum chemical system, assessing the quality of the classically computed states based on their energy distribution, selecting a state based on the assessment result, implementing the selected state on a quantum computer, and estimating the ground state energy of the quantum chemical system on the quantum computer based on the implemented state. A method for operating a motor vehicle with an internal combustion engine, comprising a combustion engine and an exhaust line with an exhaust aftertreatment system.
