Abstract

The invention relates to a bread cutting machine (1) with a cutting blade (5), a feed shaft (6), a receiving shaft (7) which adjoins the feed shaft up to a blade gap (5'), and an advancing plate (12), having a gripper (13) provided with claws. The invention is characterized in that the connection axis (a) between the feed shaft and the receiving shaft is inclined relative to the vertical by at least 30°, and an electronic controller (14) allows the claws to extend and reach into an end-face fixing section of a bread loaf introduced into the feed shaft, said fixing section extending in the direction of the connection axis, and the still uncut bread loaf to be transported across the blade gap and into the receiving shaft. During the transport process, the controller automatically produces multiple movements of the cutting blade into the blade gap in order to cut a slice from the bread loaf each time, and the cutting blade is then completely moved out of the blade gap again in order to allow the cut slice to be further transported into the receiving shaft and the remaining bread loaf to be further transported across the blade gap. In this manner, a stable, time-saving cutting process is facilitated in a structurally simple and material-saving manner.
