Abstract

A system for shaping a diamond includes a revolving scaife, at least one observation platform, an execution robot and a control process manager. The execution robot moves a stone onto the revolving scaife to shape a current stone facet. The observation platform has a camera to capture at least one image of the current facet. The execution robot has an arm attached to a holder housing the stone and uses the arm to move the stone between the scaife and a focal position of the camera. The control process manager analyzes the at least one image in order to determine a desired repair mode, calculates the steps to be executed by the execution robot to implement the desired repair mode and repeats these actions for each facet until the stone is shaped into the targeted cutting and polishing quality grade level.
