Fiber-optic equipment is often deployed in various locations, and performance of fiber-optic transmissions may be monitored as a gauge of equipment status to prevent costly and inconvenient communication outages. Events that damage equipment that eventually result in outage and may be desirable to address proactively, but the occurrence of such events may be difficult to detect only through equipment performance. Presented herein are techniques for monitoring and maintaining fiber-optic equipment performance via enclosure sensors that measure physical properties within a fiber-optic equipment enclosure, such as temperature, pressure, light, motion, vibration, and moisture, which are often diagnostic and predictive of causes of eventual communication outages, such as temperature-induced cable loss (TICL), incomplete flash-testing during installation, exposure to hazardous environmental conditions, and tampering. An enclosure sensor package transmits the physical measurements to a monitoring station, and automatic determination of enclosure- related events may enable triaging and transmission of repair alerts to maintenance personnel.

A spacer and/or spacer damper that provides for uniform spacing of horizontally bundled sub-conductors as well as enhanced heat dissipation is disclosed. More particularly, when applied to electrical transmission lines, the configuration of the spacer and/or spacer damper can include formed-wire outer rods which increase the conductor surface area thereby enhance heat dissipation. In other words, the outer rod assembly disclosed herein can provide for minimizing damaging effects of motion while enhancing heat dissipation of the underlying conductor and connector arm. Still further, the subject spacer or spacer damper can alleviate entangling of the sub-conductors most often caused by galloping, ice unloading, and fault currents.

Aerial cable spacer with cable retaining arm having non-rectangular plus-shaped cross section and angled pawl locking member
An aerial cable spacer is provided with a cable retainer and vertically disposed strengthening tabs or ribs. The cable retainer includes a cable retaining arm. A mid portion of the cable retaining arm has a non-rectangular plus “+” shaped cross section. The plus “+” shaped cross section engages and exerts a force on the cable as the cable retaining arm bends to a closed position. The arm is flexible so as to create a resilient force in conjunction with the plus “+” shaped cross section to securely hold the cable on a cable seat of a main body portion of the aerial cable spacer. A pawl is carried on the arm at a predetermined orientation to engage a corresponding set of teeth on the spacer body for enhanced cable clamping force.
The present invention relates to a cross-arm for supporting power cables, and a process for manufacturing a cross-arm. A cross-arm is provided which is an integrated form and which includes a plurality of shape components, each of the plurality of shape components having a profile which is arranged to reduce conductive tracking. The shape components may include a shadow arrangement where the sheds are mounted vertically in use and include recesses between the sheds that are shaped to receive cables. Another shape component includes a cross-arm top section profile to promote the runoff of water.
A guy marker apparatus for use on an associated guy wire includes a substantial rectangular body member having opposite parallel first and second edges and is foldable along a longitudinal axis parallel with the first and second edges. First and second connection portions are disposed at the first and second edges, respectively, for selectively interlocking the edges in slidable abutment to hold the main body member in a folded tubular conformation and selectively in a helical conformation. A tool for applying a guy marker apparatus onto an associated guy wire includes a main body member, an alignment portion adapted to guide the guy marker in an unlocked state relative to the main body member, and a production portion adapted to guide the marker in a self-locked state out from the main body member. A forming wall disposed between the alignment and production portions moves the marker material between the unlocked and self-locked state based on relative movement between the tool and the guy marker material. A dispensing system for a bulk roll of coiled guy marker material includes a housing having a cavity adapted to hold the coil of guy marker material having . a shape memory. The housing includes an outlet opening whereby desired lengths of guy marker material may be drawn. The bulk roll includes coiled flattened layers of plastic guy wire marker material having an inherent shape memory characteristic.
