TECHNIQUES FOR PROVIDING VIDEO PROGRAMS FOR PASSENGERS ON COMMERCIAL PASSENGER VEHICLES
A method for providing video programs for passengers on commercial passenger vehicles is provided. The method includes obtaining satellite beam coverage information indicative of beam coverages of one or more commercial passenger vehicles by one or more satellites; checking subscription information corresponding to a subset of commercial passenger vehicles in a beam coverage area of a particular satellite beam; generating, based on a result of the checking, a video program package including one or more video programs subscribed by the subset of commercial passenger vehicles; and transmitting the video program package to a satellite providing the particular satellite beam such that the one or more video programs of the video program package are transmitted through the particular satellite beam to the subset of commercial passenger vehicles.
Methods and systems are provided for a transportation vehicle. One method includes configuring a listening threshold value for a Type A, universal serial bus (USB) port on the transportation vehicle; providing an initial power to the USB port without any attached USB device; in response to attaching a USB device to the USB port, detecting an increase in current greater than the listening threshold value; temporarily turning off the initial power to the USB port; setting an operating threshold value, and providing operating power to the USB port; detecting a drop in current when the USB device is disconnected; and resetting the listening threshold value and providing the initial power to the USB port.
Technical solutions are described that enable passengers on a commercial passenger vehicle interact with each other during a trip using their electronic devices by communicating using an on-board communication platform. The platform can provide an in-flight shared virtual environment or world that is accessible and traversable by passengers and that includes real-world and/or virtual for passengers to consume. Passengers can create or use virtual avatars to preserve anonymity and privacy while interacting and communicating with others within the in-flight shared virtual environment or world. Data records/logs capturing cross-passenger interactions or communications within the in-flight shared virtual environment can be purged after the vehicle's flight.
Technical solutions are described that provide in-flight virtual experiences for passengers onboard a commercial passenger vehicle. In some examples, the in-flight virtual experiences simulate real-life experiences that relate to the respective travels or journeys of the passengers. For example, the in-flight virtual experiences can simulate, in various extended reality (XR) forms (e.g., virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR)), tourism attractions at journey destinations, vendor goods and services, and the like. The in-flight virtual experiences are provided via virtual experience applications implemented by an in-vehicle system, and multiple passengers can interact and collaborate in a combined session for a virtual experience application. Passengers can use the virtual experience applications to control aspects of the in-flight virtual experiences, and further to pre-configure, pre-arrange, or reserve aspects of corresponding real-life virtual experiences while the passengers are still in transit.
A display in a commercial passenger vehicle can an option to be locked or unlock to enhance security. An example system for securing an in-vehicle entertainment (IVE) display in a commercial passenger vehicle comprises a mobile device and a computer. The mobile device comprises a first processor configured to secure a display located in the commercial passenger vehicle, where the first processor is configured to: obtain a payload; generate a first digitally signed payload as a first output of a first mathematical computation performed on the payload with a secret key; and send a first message comprising the first digitally signed payload and a lock command to instruct the display to lock the display. THERMAL LOAD BALANCING FOR ELECTRONICALLY STEERABLE ANTENNAS
Example embodiments disclosed herein relate to optimizing operation of an electronically steerable antenna (ESA) with respect to temperature-related constraints. Thermal load experienced by individual antenna elements or tiles of the ESA is balanced to maximize an expected time before the ESA reaches a shutdown temperature. An example method includes determining a reduced number of antenna tiles that minimally satisfies a signal quality requirement with respect to a target system. The method further includes selecting an optimized sequence of tile patterns of the reduced number of antenna tiles within the ESA. The optimized sequence corresponds to an optimized path that traverses a graph having nodes corresponding to the tile patterns and edges defining a count of shared tiles between respective tile patterns. The method further includes operating the ESA according to the optimized sequence of tile patterns based on activating specific tiles identified by each pattern in a sequential manner.

An apparatus for assisting a pairing operation is provided. The apparatus comprises: a processor included in an intermediate device in communication with a source device to which a wireless electronic device is to be wirelessly connected through the pairing operation; and a storage included in the intermediate device and in communication with the processor, the storage configured to store pairing information of the wireless electronic device, the pairing information including a profile of the wireless electronic device that enables to complete the pairing operation with the source device. The storage further stores instructions, upon being executed, to instruct the processor to: determine to initiate the pairing operation for the wireless electronic device; and provide the pairing information of the wireless electronic device to the source device such that a wireless communication link is established between the wireless electronic device and the source device based on the pairing information of the wireless electronic device.
Embodiments described herein relate to providing path information of a vehicle to vehicle passengers, and the provided path information may be configured according to passenger-related constraints. In one embodiment, a method for providing passenger-oriented path information via an in-flight entertainment system is described. The method includes making a determination that a graphical display of an estimated first path of the commercial passenger vehicle traveling via a route between an origin and a destination intersects a constrained area. The estimated first path is estimated as a straight-line path between consecutive waypoints along the route.
